L'Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio

On Sunday, Oct 7, we went to the Rio Theatre to watch a documentary about musicians. The musicians were to perform at 8:30pm and since we were tired going into the film none of us made a commitment to last the whole evening.
We came, we'll see, we'll experience...that was what we chalked it up to be.
Goodness, what were we thinking?!

The documentary was the bringing together of musicians from a myriad of cultures, of religious beliefs, of languages, of musical training, all living in Rome. The documentary was innocent, revealing & desperate - especially for the Artist Director. Moreover, it was the bringing together of musicians who could produce music unique to their culture and who could express themselves with beautiful music so pure and clear when blended together it all made sense. It incapsulated a hope for a sense of belonging by displaying a sense of unity through music. It made you laugh with unease at how depleating the hunt for beautiful talent must have been and it made you want to see the finish product - the success of the hunt; the band, the group of musicans, the reason why the documentary was made.

By the end of the film, the air in the theatre shifted with the increase of curiosity. As the musicians approached the stage, the anticipation exploded.
The height of all the talent combined together vibrated down my spine and jostled awake any 'dead' or lethargic part of my body. The music was smooth and rhythmic. It was soulful. It was the culimination of greatness at its best.
